What is the Virtual Learning Network?

The Virtual Learning Network was set up in the first instance to complement the wide range of video conference supported programmmes offered by schools throughout the country.

The Virtual Learning Network allows students and staff to communicate with each other using online tools, such as:

  • forums
  • synchronous chat areas
  • the ability to form groups
  • drop boxes
  • weblinks
  • create and share a Knowledge Base
  • quiz
  • journals
  • calendar
  • noticeboard

and many other tools to foster collaboration and to promote learning.

The VLN includes both primary projects (eg, Learn-Now) and programmes offered by secondary schools and tertiary providers.

It is freely available for all New Zealand schools to promote learning.

If you wish to use the VLN, please contact the Ministry of Education brokers: eddie.reisch@minedu.govt.nz.
