About Us
The Virtual Learning Network (VLN) site is part of the New Zealand Ministry of Education's community of websites.
Extending our vision
The Ministry's national Virtual Learning Network 'Brokerage Service' is primarily about extending a vision of what can be achieved and what is possible through the use of a range of synchronous and asynchronous technologies to establish networked learning environments across New Zealand (and beyond).
This vision is consistent with emerging thinking about networked and open schooling, and understandings about transforming education through school networking.
What we offer
The VLN offers advice and guidance on a whole range of things that schools, tertiaries, government agencies (and so on) may need to make these connections pedagogically, as well as with applications in this networked environment.
Some of the various components of the brokerage service are available in the Learning Communities Online Handbook and on this website.
There are a number of new initiatives, as well as emerging and established services (such as Breeze, Tandberg Content Server, Hive, Lams, video/audio conferencing and eXe) that we can give advice and guidance on. Some of the initiatives that are taking place through the VLN are listed on the Projects 2008 page.
